People do crazy things for science, but few DIY scientific experiments can top this woman’s bread-baking endeavor.

Blogger Zoe Stavri, who self-identifies as an angry feminist, decided to take an unconventional approach to baking sourdough bread after waking up one morning with a yeast infection. Stavri tells her blog,

It all started with a fatal combination of a slightly perverse sense of humour, a keenly scientific mind, and touch of the thrush. Waking up on Saturday with the familiar itchy burny fanny, I giggled to myself “maybe I could make bread with that”. And that ticked into, “well, I’ve always wanted to try making my own sourdough anyway” and then a “fuck, would that even work?” and then I got curious and the next thing that happened was I was scraping white goop off of a dildo into a bowl of flour mixed with water.

You read that right. This woman used yeast from her own vagina to make sourdough bread, and she’s live-blogging about it.

Understandably, the experiment caused quite the stir on social media as foodies and chefs alike weighed in on whether or not Stavri’s experiment would work. Stavri has also responded to her haters, explaining her ingredient isn’t any more disgusting than a regular sourdough starter or even a slice of salami.

She notes in her blog post that her bread is not an attempt to make any health claims like the woman who cultured yogurt with the help of her vagina. Instead, Stavri is just curious if this could actually work.
