About a year ago, Shake Shack decided to convert their classic crinkle cut fry to a fresh, hand-cut, russet potato. On a statement released today on the Shake Shack website, CEO Randy Garutti explains why the company made the switch: “The motivation was simple: whenever we believe we can improve something at Shake Shack, we take the task seriously even if it’s a big challenge.”
But some people were not down for fresh hand-cut fries, and they sorely missed the crinkle-cut version. Among those people was Eater founder Ben Leventhal.
@kat_odell @dhmeyer @shakeshack I miss the crinkle-cut fries. Nostalgia face.

That’s when Shake Shack dropped a BOMB by responding to Leventhal’s “nostalgia face” with a link to to this statement announcing the return of crinkle cut fries to Shake Shack this fall.

Randy Garutti elaborates on the motivation behind the decision,
Garutti goes on to say that the crinkle cut fry will be better than ever upon its return—it will be free from artificial ingredients, and the Shack team is working with farmers over the next few months to “source the best spuds in the upcoming harvest.” We can definitely get down with crinkle fries 2.0.
Here’s what the Twitterverse has to say about THE RETURN OF SHAKE SHACK CRINKLE FRIES.

Although, some folks are either on the fence or just kind of whatever about the crinkle fry’s return.
oh god not only do i need to go through my shake shack hangover in front of my co-workers but i also have to mourn return of frozen crinkles

@fromedome I liked them, but crinkle-cut become iconic for the brand. Generally, prefer the new ones, but I’m down with artisanal crinkles.
