Sanrio, the Japanese company that brought you Hello Kitty, has a fabulous new egg character named Gudetama.

Sanrio describes Gudetama as an egg that is dead to the world and completely lacks motivation. No matter what cooking method you use, Gudetama remains unfazed.

Sanrio released the first animated short featuring Gudetama on Monday. In the video, Gudetama says “please leave me alone.”

We think Gudetama is a remarkable character in that he takes what life throws at him and stays chill no matter what. Gudetama is like the egg version of The Dude from The Big Lebowski, and we love him for it.

The adorable egg is sometimes featured as tomago sushi, on fried rice, or dripping from a cracked egg. Check out Gudetama’s Twitter account to see more pictures of the little huevo.

According to the L.A. Times, Gudetama was part of Sanrio’s contest last year to find new characters based on popular Japanese food. Some of the other characters included a tofu geisha and a bread-shaped panda bear.

After a vote, Gudetama was the runner-up, while Kirimi-chan (pictured below), a salmon head, won first place and was developed into a line of products by Sanrio.
