The health-conscious community can be ready to welcome a new and highly desirable product into its arms: a “Paleo” bacon, designed and packaged by Reebok.

News of this will be especially comforting to followers of the Paleo Diet, who eat only what our Paleolithic ancestors consumed. That means dairy, grains, and refined sugars, among other things, are out of the question. Instead, they munch only on fruit, vegetables, and meat. Reebok Bacon, which launched on July 22 at the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games and follows the Paelo rule of unprocessed, low sodium foods, will undoubtedly run hot in the Paleo dieting circle.

Will McGuinness, executive director at Venables Bell & Partners, the company that helped put together the bacon, says,

“Reebok wanted to engage with the CrossFit community in an authentic, memorable way. The CrossFit community loves bacon. They eat it. They talk about it. Some even wear clothes featuring it. We wanted to embrace the love of bacon and build something fun for the community, while remaining authentic to its spirit.”

The bacon—sourced by US Wellness Meats—is uncured, contains no nitrates, preservatives, MSG, or sweeteners, keeping in line with Paleo guidelines. Seventy-four boxes of the bacon were distributed to the participants before the games, but they can sample more bacon from the on-site Reebok Bacon Box food truck, which will serve options like bacon-wrapped artichoke, bacon-wrapped chorizo-stuffed dates, bacon-wrapped seasoned pork belly, and bacon-wrapped carne asada and pepperoncini. The games end this Sunday.
