To celebrate the fall equinox, Dogfish Head Brewery decided to create something very special: Celest-jewel-ale, brewed exclusively in small batches.

The brewers joined forces with ILC Dover, the same company that creates space suits for NASA, to collaborate on an unforgettable brew featuring moon dust. The beer features German hops and malt, giving it notes of toasted bread and light herbal bitterness, according to Dogfish Head.

The Dogfish Head website features the following statement:

Celest-jewel-ale is made with lunar meteorites that have been crushed into dust, then steeped like tea in a rich, malty Oktoberfest. These certified moon jewels are made up primarily of minerals and salts, helping the yeast-induced fermentation process and lending this traditional German style a subtle but complex earthiness.

ILC went a step beyond the call by making custom beer koozies for Celest-jewel-ale. Made from Orthofabric, the material used to make space suits, which contains Mylar layers to keep cold trapped inside.

Unfortunately, you’ll have to hop in the car to try Celest-jewel-ale. It is exclusively served at the Dogfish Head brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. But the trip should be well worth it.
