The official theme of the 2015 World’s Fair in Milan, Italy is “Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life.” Luckily, some Guinness World Records officials were on hand when sixty pizza makers at the world’s fair created a 1,595.45-meter (or 5233 feet) long pizza margherita. That’s close to one mile of cheesy, saucy goodness.

According to Neatorama, this pizza incorporated more than two tons of tomato sauce, half a ton of mozzarella cheese, and was stretched across 800 tables for measurement. Add that to your list of pizza facts everyone should know.

How do you cook such an enormous pizza? The answer is simple: moving ovens.

The pizza makers did the next-best thing and fed this pizza to 30,000 fair-goers, then donated what was left over to a local food bank. If you were looking to eat all 6,000 slices, you should have been in Milan over the weekend.

But one survey says Americans will eat that exact amount of pizza over the course of their lifetime, so don’t sweat it if you missed the expo.pizza_tmnt

This is one more example of why pizza is the universal language that crosses all boundaries. Pizza is the ultimate uniter of humanity, from straight-up carnivores to militant vegans, and everyone in between.

How do we know this? Because it only took the world four years to create a much longer pizza than the previous Guinness World Records holder. That pizza was built by an association of artisanal pizza makers in Spain, and measured just 1,141.5 meters in length, which is not even three quarters of a mile.

This group of 60 Italian pizza makers saw their goal in sight, and weren’t afraid to reach for the mozz-covered stars. It’s like the Pizza Bible says: Blessed are the pizza-makers, for they shall obtain world piece.
