HBCU Homecoming season is still upon us and current students and alumni are continuing to find ways to celebrate the occasion. Honoring an annual tradition that typically brings so many together has been more than difficult for the past two years, but this year, Howard University alumnus Freddie Ransome, found a way to bring the festivities her way by teaming up with Xavier University alumnus and chef Bryant Terry to recreate a few (untraditional) HC dishes at home.

Coming from Howard, which is located in the heart of Washington D.C., Freddie is accustomed to turning up with chicken wings, rice, and some good ol’ fashioned mambo sauce. But in an effort to switch things up, Freddie teamed up with Chef Terry in the kitchen to whip up some Fried Maitake Mushrooms with Pili Pili sauce.

While Freddie admits her college diet was “embarrassing,” she’s more than happy to say she’s since learned some new recipes to add to her palate.

Watch the HBCU duo take over the kitchen, and see how you can create your own taste of homecoming without leaving the house (unless you need to go to the store to get the ingredients).

And just remember, there’s no place like home.
