It’s official: smuggling marijuana into the U.S. inside fake watermelons doesn’t work.

On Thursday, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol pulled over a tractor-trailer carrying watermelons near Tucson, Arizona. Upon x-raying the “fruit,” the border patrol found millions of dollars worth of weed hidden insideGawker reports.

The melons were painted replicas, mere impostors of the summer staple. The smuggler, working for the Mexican drug cartel, made it about 20 miles past the border before being stopped.

This isn’t the first time cartels used watermelons as weed-smuggling vehicles. In 2008, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol busted another tractor-trailer from Mexico carrying about 5,000 pounds of cannabis, worth approximately $8.3 million, hidden among real watermelons.

And watermelons are just the tip of the food-turned-drug-mule iceberg. Earlier this year, a man tried to smuggle cocaine inside frozen goat meat. We’re serious.

Below, we’ve provided photos of folks smoking from real watermelon bongs for your enjoyment.
