Earlier this year, Chick-fil-A announced that it would open a massive three-story restaurant in Herald Square (at 37th Street and 6th Avenue) before the summer was out.

Now, Chick-fil-A has finally announced the official opening date for its first freestanding location in NYC. New Yorkers, get ready to experience chicken sandwich glory on October 3.

The chicken chain is about to take over Manhattan. CNBC’s Katie Little reports that the Herald Square Chick-fil-A location will be the largest in America, and that Chick-fil-A will open a second freestanding location near Rockefeller Center, at 46th Street and 6th Avenue, in the near future.

Technically, the Herald Square Chick-fil-A location is Manhattan’s second—the first is in NYU’s food court. But no one wants to go back to college to get a chicken sandwich (or an air conditioner), so this freestanding location is big news.

Seeing that the chicken sandwich is experiencing a renaissance in NYC at every level, it seems only responsible that Chick-fil-A participates.

NOTE: The day after the Herald Square location opens, October 4, is a Sunday, which means Chick-fil-A will be closed. So get your chicken-sandwich-loving self there on opening day.
