Everyone knows the famous Notorious B.I.G. lyric about a “T-bone steak, cheese eggs, and Welch’s grape,” but you might not realize that the legendary MC’s gastronomic prowess didn’t end there.
From humble tales of sardines to boasts of escargot, he had a brilliant ability to go both high and low with his food references. Perfectly placed childhood dinner references grounded his struggle and provided a foil to his rap-life persona. But he wasn’t afraid to floss, and he proved equally adept at spitting about splurgy mobster-favored dishes when embodying his gangster alter-ego, Frank White.
