Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are known for spreading ice-cream-infused goodwill wherever they go. Already heroes to stoners everywhere, they’ve now firmly secured their place in the hearts of Americans by confirming something you may already have suspected: The two are down with making a weed-laced Ben & Jerry’s flavor when (and where) it’s legal.

It happened on an episode of HuffPost Live, when host Alyona Minkovski read a viewer submission out loud:

Ben Cohen responded very evenly, “Makes sense to me. Combine your pleasures!”

Meanwhile, Jerry Greenfield had a more measured response.

“Ben and I have had previous experiences with substances, and I think legalizing marijuana is a wonderful thing. It’s not my decision. If it were my decision, I’d be doing it, but fortunately we have wiser heads at the company that figure those things out.

It’s important to remember that the two guys behind the Ben & Jerry brand are now more goodwill figureheads than actual company runners, since they sold the company to Unilever in 2001. While ownership may have changed some time ago, the brand has remained committed to the kinds of socially responsible core values that Ben & Jerry’s had already carved into its particular niche. ben & jerry 2

Since the brand already features delicious flavors with names like “Half Baked” and “Hazed and Confused,” the leap in logic isn’t exactly a big one. With more and more states legalizing marijuana for medical use—if not recreational use—we won’t be surprised at all when this actually starts hitting freezer cases and ice cream shops near us. Meanwhile, we’ll be thinking about that “Happy Cows” ad campaign, and picturing some really happy cows making our ice cream.
