Though it’s well known that Chance the Rapper has carved out a place for himself in the music industry without a record deal (despite, you know, the president telling him he should start selling his music), apparently endorsement deals with chocolate companies aren’t completely out of bounds.
On Monday, Kit Kat tweeted that a new jingle featuring Chance was going to be “dropping soon,” telling fans to stay tuned” and posting a photo of the rapper in a bear costume holding one of the company’s chocolate bars. The new jingle is apparently pegged to Halloween, and the Kit Kat bar in the photo features a picture of "Chance the Wrapper's" face.
Earlier this year, Chance showcased his food-rap skills in an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, trading bars about breakfast over a Skrillex-produced beat. If Chance has been tapped to update Kit Kat’s iconic “Gimme a Break” jingle—or pen his own theme song—he’ll join a line of rappers who have cooked up hooks for major food brands in recent years. Back in June, news broke that G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha T had actually penned McDonald’s famed “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle, despite popular belief that Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams had written the tune.
Almost immediately, fans were in Kit Kat's mention's about Chance's get-up in the photo, and promising to buy more chocolate if the rapper's face really appeared on the packaging.
