If you’re a hip-hop head, you might have heard recently that Lil Yachty doesn’t know his rap history. Last month, the 19-year-old, Atlanta-bred MC made waves on the rap blogs after he admitted he "honestly couldn't name five songs" by the Notorious B.I.G. or Tupac Shakur in an interview with Billboard. Like the time Lil Boat admitted he hated “serious rap” in an interview with Tidal—or the time he wrote “Fuck J. Cole” on Twitter—a fierce debate ensued over what constitutes “real” hip-hop in 2016.
And while the conversation got heated—pitting old-school rap purists against the new-school vanguard—Yachty has somehow found himself at the center of an even more important debate this week. Simply put, which breakfast food is better: pancakes or waffles?
On Monday, the rapper posted the phrase “chocolate chip waffles” on Twitter. A fan corrected Yachty, putting the word “pancakes” before an asterisk, and some legend at the International House of Pancakes jumped in the fray, correcting the tweet again with its own name and telling the rapper to “come thru.”
A tweet of this quality is refreshing from a restaurant chain (for the record, IHOP serves a fairly dope array of waffles despite its name), especially when Denny’s keeps throwing up bricks about the iPhone 7.
