Burgers that double as burritos, pizzas with tater-tot crust, and mac 'n cheese bites made with Cheetos batter. In 2016, there is simply no end to the menu items fast-food chains will dream up in the hopes of luring customers into their grease-filled clutches.

For years, Taco Bell has been at the forefront when it comes to playing Dr. Frankenstein in the kitchen. Earlier this month, news broke that the Tex-Mex chain would been releasing its much-hyped fried-chicken taco shells in 2017, and now the company is reportedly taken things even one step further.

According to photos posted to Reddit this month, Taco Bell is saying the hell with the standard tortilla chip—one viewed as a respite from the onslaught of meat and queso that is Tex-Mex cuisine—and will soon let customers dunk triangular bits of deep-fried chicken into small vats of nacho cheese sauce. May God have mercy on all our souls.

Purportedly called "Crispy Chicken Chips," the menu item is said to be in the testing phase, though there's no official word yet on when—or if—these fast-food nightmares will launch nationwide.

In addition to the the Crispy Chicken Chips and Naked Crispy Chicken Shell, Taco Bell has tested a number of limited-release fried chicken items over the years.

“They are testing a lot of chicken things,” one Redditor with an iron stomach noted. “I'm hoping the chalupa with a shell of chicken takes off so I can try that.”

First We Feast has reached out to Taco Bell for comment, and will update this post if and when a response is received.
