If there's one thing the Olympics are good for, it's crowning the new face of the Wheaties box—a tradition that's existed in American sports for nearly a century. The medals are cool—and representing one's country on the world stage is important, too—but the Wheaties box, well, that lives forever.
And while Michael Phelps has had his face grace a number of cereal boxes over the years—and will probably nab a few more after his ridiculous, gold medal run this year—the real stars of Rio, the US women's gymnastics team.
Dubbing themselves the "Final Five," Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman decided against the classic, orange Wheaties box and opted for something a little more unique, and a lot more red, lending their pictures to the new box of Special K Red Berries.
The five gymnasts have been killing it at the 2016 summer games, and the head honchos at Kellogg's (along with everyone else) took noticed.
"We couldn't be prouder of Simone [Biles] and the women's team after all of their incredible achievements here in Rio representing Team USA," Noel Geoffroy, a senior vice president at Kellogg's, said in a press release. "By highlighting what gets her started each day—the support of her teammates—Simone has shown us the daily motivations that drive her to be the best gymnast in the world and helped her reach her full potential at her first Games."
While we were sort of hoping Biles would sign an endorsement deal with a pizza company, Special K will have to do. Wheaties, for its part, has yet to release a statement—or a cereal box—since the Olympics started. Only time will tell, but we're guessing Phelps and his unbelievable breakfast routine are pretty strong candidates for the honor.
