Back in 2014, in a cover story for Complex, Cam’ron detailed just how important the culinary arts are to his creative process as a rapper.

“The studio’s in my crib, so I would cook some lamb, then go lay a verse, then come back upstairs and cook some steak and lay a verse, then come back upstairs and cook some shrimp and lay a verse,” the MC said of his first encounters with the producer A-Trak. “We was just cooking and recording all night.”

If it wasn’t clear already, Cam’ron—the high school basketball prodigy turned Harlem drug dealer turned Diplomats commander-in-chief—does things a little differently. Few figures in hip-hop could go head-to-head with Bill O’Reilly one week, and then inspire legions of rappers to start rocking pink fur coats the next.

Still, one of Cam’ron’s most impressive traits remains his skill inside the kitchen. On Monday, in the inaugural episode of the variety show Noisey & Friends, the rapper teamed up with Vice to take fans through some of his classic recipes, whipping up some lamb, shell steak, asparagus, shrimp scampi, and corn on the cob.

“A lot of people don’t know,” Killa says. “I’m a rapper first, an interior decorator second, and then I’m a chef third.”

From dicing to measuring, these are the six biggest kitchen tips from “Cookin’ with Cam’ron.”
