Adele sings songs for the broken-hearted. On monster hits like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Hello,” there’s something about the force of the artist’s voice that captures the pain and longing of unrequited love. But what if all along, after so many tears were shed and records sold, the true object of Adele’s desire was actually….pizza?

OK, we may be getting a little ahead of ourselves, but it turns out Adele does really, really love a good pie. In July, rumors circulated that the singer had sent a hotel staff on a 140-mile run just to go grab her a couple slices. But, like all great Shakespearean tragedies, Adele and her beloved pizza must sadly part ways.

“I can’t eat pizza anymore guys,” the 28-year-old singer told the Daily Star on Friday. “How bad is that?”

Apparently, pizza threatened to get in the way of Adele’s singing career. And, as the old adage goes, if you love something, set it free.

"It’s got cooked tomatoes on it which are bad for your throat and give you acid reflux,” the singer explained. “How bad is that, that I can’t eat pizza, can you get over that?”

Still, quitting a habit cold turkey is a difficult task. Adele is smack dab in the middle of a US tour, and had been sampling the pizza in every state she visits.

“I’m in America and I can’t eat pizza no more,” she said “It’s worse than Romeo and Juliet! If only Shakespeare was alive, he could write about it!”

While we sympathize with Adele’s predicament, let's be real for a moment. If the cooked tomatoes are the problem, the singer still has options. White pizza, while inferior to the real deal, is still a very viable replacement. Also, maybe it's time you branch out and discover the world of American sandwiches, Adele. From heroes to grinders to hoagies to subs—there’s plenty of other foodstuffs in the sea.
