Pusha T has been back in the news this week after dropping the track “Drug Dealers Anonymous” with Jay-Z, sampling audio from a conservative pundit who named HOV in a rant about Beyoncé. But as biting as the song is—with both rappers delving deeply into their past lives as cocaine and crack dealers—the most shocking bit of news about the G.O.O.D. music president came in an interview on Thursday with Steven Stoute.
Stoute, a former record executive who was once famously beat with a champagne bottle by Diddy, stopped by Hot 97 on Thursday to chat about his new publication, TheStashed.com. But during the conversation, while speaking about his marketing company's first big deal, he revealed that Pusha T was the mastermind behind the now-legendary “I’m Lovin’ It” ad campaign from McDonald’s.
“Our first big thing was launching ‘I’m Lovin It’ for McDonald’s, that was in 2004,” Stoute said. “You know who did that? Pusha T. That’s crazy that Pusha T wrote the song for McDonalds.”
Like most fans, Hot 97’s Ebro had assumed Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams were behind the jingle. Timberlake’s voice can be heard on the song’s hook, and the singer would later star in a video for another “I’m Lovin’ It” song. But apparently Pusha was the true mastermind behind the iconic lyric.
“I'm lovin' it, is this the place to eat? Since I don't cook I'll just rock to the beat," the song goes. “I'm lovin' it at the end of the day, to relieve the stress we add a little play.”
