Just Blaze, the legendary hip-hop producer and Polo aficionado, stopped by the Rap Radar podcast on Wednesday to chop it up with hosts Elliott Wilson and Brian "B.Dot" Miller. The hour-and-45-minute interview covered Just's recent collaboration with Beyoncé (he produced the track "Freedom" from the singer's new visual album, Lemonade) and how he hates when his interviews are picked up by other news outlets. "I am so anti-interview at this point," he said, before Wilson and Miller could get out their first question. "I'm tired of being click-baited."
We hear you, Just, but one piece of information from that Rap Radar sit down was too good not to share: This summer, the DJ will be opening a new, izakaya-style ramen restaurant in New Jersey.
Upon further investigation, it appears Just will be involved in the opening of a second location of Montclair's popular Ani Ramen. The producer later confirmed the news in an interview with First We Feast, adding that he might even serve as the restaurant's in-house chef one night a month, calling the events "Just Blaze Fridays."
Just hails from Paterson, so it's only fitting that his first foray into the food-and-beverage biz is going to be in the Garden State. The new location of the slurp shop will be located in Jersey City, a burgeoning culinary hot spot just minutes away from lower Manhattan.
The spot has been a hit in Montclair, so we're guessing the investment was a smart one. But when asked by Wilson and Miller why he wanted to get involved in the restaurant game, Just's answer was simple: "Why not?"
