KFC has recruited noteworthy comedians for its recent Colonel Sanders commercials, including SNL alums Norm McDonald and Darrell Hammond. Jim Gaffigan is starring in the most recent commercials, but there’s always time to stop and look ahead at what’s next. Enter David Alan Grier.

Grier, from In Living Color fame, took to Twitter yesterday to put his hat in the ring, claiming that he was, in fact, the next Colonel Sanders.

Although, his breaking news wasn’t actually news at all, seeing that he was joking. But when you say something on Twitter, it automatically turns to “fact,” so the Internet went nuts. Fans on Twitter made such an uproar that when Uproxx reached out to corporate headquarters, KFC actually seemed to consider Grier a possibility for the role.

“We are very excited to learn that Mr. Grier is such a big fan of KFC and The Colonel. We’re a big fan of him as well. We hope to continue the conversation with him over a $5 Fill Up.” KFC’s CMO said.

Whether that lunch meeting will actually happen—and if it will go well or not—nobody knows, but we’ll be watching. Some more diversity on our TV screen is always welcomed, and Grier already has the Colonel Sanders beard game down pat.
