Calling all nostalgic 90s kids: Chicago is getting its very own Saved by the Bell-themed pop-up bar and diner. According to the Chicagoist, the diner will be called Saved By The Max and it will set up shop June 1 in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood for a month. The “parody pop-up diner/bar”—which isn’t affiliated with NBC at all—is modeled after The Max Diner, the hangout spot of choice for all Bayside High attendees.
It’s unclear whether Zack Morris and his crew—Kelly Kapowski, A.C. Slater, Jessie Spano, and Lisa Turtle—will make an appearance. Screech most definitely will likely not be there considering that the actor behind the character, Dustin Diamond, is currently in jail for his connection to a stabbing at a bar in 2014. Mr. Belding (played by Dennis Haskins), however, will likely be there given his nostalgia for the show.
The Facebook page for the pop-up reveals that restaurant will serve a number of themed dishes inspired by the characters such as AC Sliders, Macaroni & Screech, Belding Fries, and a Lisa Turtle Milkshake. There will also be a full bar with”custom Bayside-inspired booze and cocktails,” as well as a daily costume contest where attendees can win $100 for whipping out their best 90s gear. There will also be themed karaoke, trivia, and dance parties, so attendees might want to make a run for that themed-bar early.
