Have you ever heard someone “play” a recipe on their guitar? That’s exactly what Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon did earlier this week at “Eating Out Loud,” a night of readings and performances put on by Lucky Peach at Los Angeles’ Million Dollar Theater.

She uttered the first stanza of Corn with Miso Butter and Bacon—a Lucky Peach recipe written in haikus—into the microphone, strumming down on her guitar then letting the words and notes reverberate throughout the historic theater. Next up, “Master of None” star Eric Wareheim told a story about going on a road trip with an oyster-friend named Dan.

Others who participated in the reading: legendary L.A. food writer Jonathan Gold, chef Roy Choi of Kogi and LocoL in Watts, author Amelia Gray, and Lucky Peach co-creator David Chang.

Are you bummed you missed the event? Lucky for you, you can listen to all the readings on the KCRW Good Food podcast below.
