Domino’s is taking the latter half of “pizza pie” quit literally for its newest creation. According to Brand Eating, Domino’s Ukraine is now slinging pies shaped like pizza. Featuring the very creative moniker of “Domino’s Pies,” the sweet treat is literally a pie made pizza dough for the crust.
Appearance wise, they look like a hybrid between a pizza and a pie. The crust is puffy like that of a pizza, but the pie features a lattice pattern across the top. The pie pies come in four flavors including cherry, cottage cheese with apricot jam, lemon poppyseed, apple spiked with cinnamon and ginger. Each pie costs around $5.50.
It’s surprising that Domino’s didn’t choose to release the pie pies stateside. There is little more that screams “America!” quite like an apple pie, especially one that is fused with a pizza because everyone knows this country loves a stunt food.
Though, to be fair, there are chains in the U.S. that do sell desserts shaped like pizza. In 2014, Pizza Hut released a pizza pie-sized cookie called the Ultimate Hershey’s Chocolate Chip Cookie. It is slightly larger than a personal pan pizza is sliced into triangles just like a pizza. For a while, Pizza Hut also had a dessert pizza on the menu that featured pie fillings like cherry and apple on a pizza crust, drizzled with icing.
