With New Years Eve fast approaching, it’s time to brush up on those bottle opening skills in preparation for the big 2016 toast.

And if you’re really looking to impress, look no further than the art of sabering—an old-school technique of opening a glass bottle with a sword.

The unlikely duo of celeb chef Michael Voltaggio and rapper Vince Staples came together with GQ to practice their sabering skills, using some of the most bizarre props imaginable. Although not every endeavor was successful (see: tap shoes and dated iPods), using swords and pots proved to be great ways to get the bubbly flowing.
