As more and more people become interested in where their food comes from and how it’s made, it’s no surprise that some have decided to go off the grid and start growing food for themselves. Andy George, the host of the How To Make Everything series, was willing to take six months out of his life to craft one sandwich entirely from scratch, using nothing but his two hands.

From harvesting his own wheat to killing a chicken, here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how he did it:

Step 1: Grow a Garden

All it takes is a little love and a lot of patience.

Step 2: Get Some Ocean Water

Collect a big gallon of salt water, boil it down, and watch salt appear right before your very eyes.

Pro Tip: Make sure you can hide your salt to make it through airport security.

Step 3: Make Some Pickles

Using your homemade salt, cut up a few cucumbers and pickle your own vegetables.

Step 4: Milk a Cow

For this step you’ll need to get down and dirty by freshly milking a cow and making your own homemade cheese.

Optional step: ride a cow because why not.

Step 5: Harvest Wheat and Bake Bread

You can’t make a sandwich without gluten.

Step 6: Get Honey

Don’t forget to wear the proper protective gear.

Step 7: Make Butter

No butter churn here. All you need to do is shake up some milk in a mason jar.

Step 8: Slaughter a Chicken

Doing this step by hand might make you consider going vegan.

Step 9: Make Your Sandwich

Watch the fruits of your labor all come together as you construct your sandwich.

Step 10: Eat

Six months later and your sandwich is finally ready to be sampled. But how did it taste? Watch the video below to find out.
