Earlier this year, Chef director Jon Favreau announced he would be opening a real El Jefe restaurant in L.A. inspired by the movie. Kogi and POT chef Roy Choi will be Favreau’s partner in the new eatery, which will serve some of the amazing food featured in the film.

In the meantime, Favreau has joined forces with Choi and Animal chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo to host El Jefe pop-ups around Los Angeles. Choi tells First We Feast, “Jon is expressing the movie through the pop-ups.”

The next El Jefe pop-up will focus on New Orleans, and it will be hosted at Animal on Wednesday of next week (January 14). There’s two parts to this awesome-sounding pop up:

1.) Muffulettas will be sold outside the restaurant on Fairfax from 6pm ’til the last sandwich is gone (cash only)

2.) There will be a $75 per person, multi-course family tasting at Animal (call 323-782-9225 to make a reservation)

Will there be beignets as well? You’ll have to go to Animal on Wednesday to find out.

This is the third pop-up hosted at Animal; the first of the series was held at POT Lobby Bar at The Line Hotel, May 15, 2014.newnew
