The Knicks may be a disgrace this year, but at least New York hoop fans have one thing to be excited for this year: The NBA All-Star Game is coming to town in February, and along with it the party-centric tomfoolery that is All-Star Weekend.
A lot of the merrymaking will probably go down at Greenhouse, with J.R. Smith clutching bottles and staring lecherously at Rihanna. But so far, the party we’re most excited about is the Rock On Foundation Benefit Dinner, a blowout feast at the new Mission Chinese Food hosted by Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs, Danny Bowien of MCF, and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head.
In other words: NBA players, the hottest restaurant in town, and endless DFH beer pairings. The only way this could be more relevant to our interests would be if Run the Jewels were performing. You can always hope.
The dinner goes down on Thursday, February 12 at MCF from 6-9pm. Tickets are $250 and proceeds benefit the Rock on Foundation, which Bonner started with his brother Luke to support artistic and athletic programs in underserved communities.
And that’s not all! There’s also an Alt Star Party at Bowery Ballroom on Friday the 13th, featuring DJ sets from the likes of Chris Tomson (Vampire Weekend) and Dapwell (formerly of Das Racist). Guest there can get their hands on a super limited-edition, Matt Bonner-inspired Dogfish Head beer called 48-Minute IPA. Hops were added continuously to the boil for 48 minutes (the length of an NBA basketball game), and the beer is flavored with New Hampshire white birch chips as a tribute to Bonner’s Granite State roots.
No word yet on whether Bowien will pay tribute to Bonner’s well-documented love of sandwiches, but we expect nothing less.
