News of OpenTable’s new “pay by phone” app feature comes as no surprise. Just a month earlier, diners in New York and San Francisco witnessed a dining experience revolution in the form of Cover, an app that allows users to pay the check without having to make conversation with the waitstaff.

As the new competition, OpenTable’s service seems to be unique in that it is integrated with the regular/primary reservations-booking feature. There are 46 restaurants in New York City that will offer diners the choice to pay with their phones, including Lafayette, Tamarind Tribeca, and Il Buco.

Usage of the app is as simple as you’d think—here are the steps to attaining complete autonomy when paying for your meal:

1. Book any participating restaurant using OpenTable.
2. Click to view your check “in real time.”
3. Choose your tip and slide to pay.
4. Leave, and receive a copy of your receipt by email.
