Illustrator, math teacher, and Ultimate Father Nathan Shields has been turning his kids’ breakfast into a creative learning experience since 2012, using just pancake batter and his boundless, singular imagination.
Shields creates detailed portraits of famous people, fictional characters, animals, plants, and mathematical symbols, and then posts them on his website saipancakes.com before (we assume) chowing down with his two children—who are learning without even knowing it. Genius.
Shields began the edible art project while living with his family on the Pacific Island of Saipan; he now flips his anatomically-accurate pancakes in Washington State. He’ll even take requests via email or Twitter—we can’t wait for some legendary high schooler to ask their prom date out via Bisquick mix.
