Thanks, USA Today, for making our stomachs churn. The news outlet reports that 1.8 million pounds of ground beef products are being recalled because of possible E. coli contamination.
The E. coli-tainted beef products were traced to Wolverine Packing Co., according to the USDA. The contaminated beef has caused at least 11 illnesses across four states, and sent three victims to the hospital.
The recalled ground beef products (listed here) were produced from March 31 to April 18 and shipped to distributors for restaurant use throughout Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.
Illness from E. coli O157:H7 (a particular strain that releases toxins) can cause severe abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. God, why did you let us eat a hamburger for lunch!? Oh wait, we’re in New York…dodged that bullet!
