Nick Chipman, author of the DudeFoods blog, is all about topping his previous records for the most ridiculous sandwich creations.
In September, he created the McEverything sandwich, stacking 43 McDonald’s ingredients into a leaning tower of grease, meat, and glory.
This week, Chipman has unleashed an “alphabet sandwich” on the world. All 26 letters of the alphabet are represented by ingredients, placed between the buns in alphabetical order. Curious as to what went in? Head to the bottom of the page for a list of the ingredients.
We spoke to the boundary-pushing Chipman about the craftsmanship behind his newest creation, plus his disdain for spicy ingredients.
Sandwich-making obsessives, read on.
What are your favorite and least favorite ingredients on the alphabet sandwich?
My favorite ingredient is probably avocado. Anything that makes food super spicy is probably my least favorite ingredient.
I can deal with a few jalapeños on my nachos or on a burger, but I just don’t understand making food so spicy just because you can. Like those restaurants that have wing eating challenges where you have to eat a few super, super spicy wings and then after that you’re just sick for the rest of the day and your stomach is killing you. What’s the point in that? Then again though, I’m sure plenty of people would say the same thing about my alphabet sandwich, so to each his own I guess.
How long did the sandwich take to make and shoot?
The sandwich didn’t take too long at all to make. Probably only about 20 minutes or so. Shooting photos of it was pretty quick, too, but that’s mainly because I was so scared of it toppling over that I made sure to get it done as quickly as possible.
How did you come up with the alphabet sandwich?
The alphabet sandwich was an idea I’ve had for a few years now, but I just never got around to making it until recently. One day, I came up with the name and was thinking about how goofy it would be to try and make a sandwich with 26 different toppings, one for each letter of the alphabet.
What’s your favorite part of running Dudefoods?
I think my favorite part of running DudeFoods is just seeing and hearing peoples’ reactions to the stuff I make—good or bad. It’s funny how something like a crazy, Doritos Breaded Deep Fried Burger can get some people super excited to the point where they’re making their own at home, yet it can also make just as many people angry because to them it looks totally disgusting.
