Chefs like Thomas Keller have been making savory sorbets for decades. And because the trickle-down effect is very real, Häagen-Dazs Japan will come out with two new vegetable flavors on May 12, according to Rocket News.

The “Tomato Cherry” and “Carrot Orange” flavors are part of what the global ice cream maker calls the “Spoon Vege” series.

The new veggie ice creams will be somewhat healthy (relatively speaking). The “Spoon Vege” flavors will contain about 8.5% milk fat, which is a little over half the fat percentage of regular Häagen-Dazs.

Considering America’s current obsession with juicing, we think the ice cream flavors might do well stateside. But as is the case with other awesome Japanese products, we may never get to try them.

When we first heard about the Häagen-Dazs’ veg flavors, we couldn’t help but think of Blue Hill’s line of savory yogurts, which launched in the fall of last year, and included unexpected flavors like carrot, tomato, beet, and butternut squash.
