Justin Warner, a Food Network Star, Brooklyn restauranteur, and culinary renegade, can now add “unconventional news anchor” to his resume.

In this clip for Food & Wine, the Do or Dine chef spits hot bars relating to the week’s food news. He saves his wittiest lines for globally-acclaimed chef Ferran Adria’s first Cronut, which was hand delivered by its inventor, Dominique Ansel. Warner tells First We Feast,

“I put the verse together over a glass of bourbon at the bar at Do or Dine. It took me one glass of time to complete. I don’t freestyle rap but I do freestyle cook.”

In verse, Warner argues that the Cronut has officially found a place in the modern cannon of culinary classics, along with dishes like Thomas Keller’s famed Oysters and Pearls. So, will Warner become a regular Food & Wine news anchor/MC? “I hope to rap the food news as frequently as possible,” Warner told us via email.

When we asked Warner how, exactly, he came to be Food & Wine‘s rapping news anchor, he explained,

“I kinda snuck into the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen about 4 years ago. Belinda Chang commissioned me to rewrite Snoop’s Drop it Like it’s Hot into châteauneuf du pape. It was a pretty big success. Anyway, I’ve been pals with Food & Wine ever since.”
