When chocolate and beer come together, we all benefit. Italian chocolatier Cioccolateria Napoleone and Cittareale brewery Alta Quota joined forces, creating a spreadable beer. Through experimentation with thickness and just a little bit of chocolatier magic, the ‘birra spalmabile’ is now available to amp up your Saturday morning breakfast spread.

Two varieties, Greta blond ale and and Omid dark ale, are now available in 9.8 oz jars at posh UK department Store Selfridges for £7.99 ($12.54) a pop. Ok, it’s not as budget-friendly as Wheaties, but we can justify spending some dough for this makeshift Breakfast of Champions.

Pietro Napoleone, the mastermind behind the beer, described his invention to Italy Magazine as “like a sweet, beer-scented jelly.”

In the same interview, Alta Quota’s Claudio Lorenzini stated, “This is not the first time in Italy and in Europe that someone has tried to make a non-liquid beer, but the experiments carried out have not been successful because the combination of ingredients was not a winner. We believe that we have found the right formula with the use of high-quality products.”

Grazie mille, Italy, from brew-lovers everywhere.
