Does singing about a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger with Tweet-written lyrics that include,”#isthisreallife,” in a New York City Wendy’s mark the low point of Nick Lachey’s music career? After a short browse through his Wikipedia page, the answer is most likely, yes.

The 98 Degrees frontman has linked up with Wendy’s to promote the chain’s newest summer menu offering, the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger. The way this campaign works is that you tweet at Wendy’s about this burger and include “#PretzelLoveSongs.” Then they sift through those tweets and use them to create lyrics to a love ballad about cheeseburgers. It’s a disgustingly brilliant social media campaign that gets the Twittersphere involved and kinda psyched about Wendy’s burgers.

But Wendy’s wanted to take their campaign a step further than just having another commercial actor sing a Barry Manilow-esq love song to their burger with a bear rug on a piano. They wanted to tug at the heart strings of nostalgic millennials, and so they enlisted the washed-up star power of Nick Lachey. Lachey was apparently more than happy to be involved in Wendy’s campaign, telling the Daily News, “I’ve obviously never had the opportunity to write a song about a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger.”

Lachey’s involvement in the campaign took off Monday night when he played his gig at the West 34th Street Wendy’s. Check out a snippet of his soundcheck below. Wendy’s should soon be releasing the full live performance on it website here—we’re on the edge of our seats waiting.
