Washington Wizards forward Martell Webster received an important basic lesson in cooking from José Andres during a visit to D.C. Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization that provides meals and culinary job training to those in need throughout Washington, D.C.

In the video on the Washington Post, the Spanish chef anxiously watches Webster chopping green bell peppers until he has no choice but to intervene. “It’s not a manicure here,” Andrés tells the 26-year-old small forward.

He shows Webster how to use the classic bear claw grip, making sure he uses the middle finger as the “big brother always folded, protecting the little brother.” Why? As the chef explains, “That way the knife [goes] against the finger and you don’t cut yourself.”

A show in which Andrés teaches NBA players how to cook would be awesome.
