Thanks to the phenomenal growth of the craft-beer industry, it’s becoming more and more difficult to keep up with each week’s slew of new releases. That’s why we’re going to try to help keep you on the pulse via this new weekly roundup on beer, highlighting some of the most exciting new brews across the country, including both home-grown creations and covetable imports. So, let’s get down to it:

  • USA Today: Mission Brewery‘s Dark Seas is a Russian imperial stout with “base chocolate and caramel malt notes, along with slightly bitter coffee from roasted malt, then raisin and plum, and a slight smokiness in the background.”
  • Norwich Bulletin: For fans of Trappist beers, the Westvleteren 12 is among the most coveted Belgian ales in the world. This year, U.S. importer Shelton Brothers has brought in a limited number of gift sets, which will go on sale beginning in mid-December.
  • The Inquirer: Duvel’s Tripel Hop is not technically an American ale; however, as Craig LaBan explains, the 2012 edition “is a stunning example of the kind of bounce-back influence Americans are having on Belgians.” In addition to the European hops mix of Saaz-Saaz and Styrian Golding, Duvel adds Citra (an American variety of hops) to give the limited-edition brew notes of lemon, pine, and spices.
  • The Daily Page: The Baaad Boy Black Wheat from 3 Sheeps Brewing Company in Wisconsin is an easy-to-drink black wheat ale. Considered “an American twist on the German Dunkelweizen,” the ale would pair well with roasted chicken and soups featuring mushrooms.
  • Seattle PI: Behold, the limited release of Rogue’s tribute to the 41st anniversary of Powell’s Books: White Whale Ale. The name isn’t just a clever reference—the brew is made with actual pages of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. It is available for order online (unless you’re in Utah, Massachusetts, Texas, or North Dakota, as these states prohibit the import of alcoholic beverages).
