Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione is a trailblazer of the craft-beer world, with two decades of experience creating game-changing brews utilizing everything from moon rocks to Delaware scrapple. Now, First We Feast is sending the fearless brewmaster on his craziest mission yet: crafting never-before-seen beers for the cultural icons who inspire him on “First We Feast Presents…That’s Odd, Let’s Drink It,” a new web series premiering this month.

Each episode of the six-part series features Calagione teaming up with special guests at the forefront of their respective fields to debut an experimental beer. Collaborating with the likes of rapper Mac Miller, NBA all-star Chris Bosh, world-class DJ Z-Trip, and actors Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio, Calagione pushes his improvisational beer-making skills to the extreme.

Episode 6: The Hill-side

For his final mission of the epic first season of “That’s Odd,” Sam joins forces with GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers in America, Emil and Sandy Corsillo of the Hill-Side, to brew something extra special for the grand opening of their new flagship store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The goal? To merge the process of making clothes and making beer by utilizing edible, all-natural dyes that can be deployed in both fabric and liquid—with a little help from the hops aficionados over at Other Half Brewing.

Episode 5: Ken Marino and Joe Lo Truglio

In episode 5, Sam meets up with his old college buddies—who now happen to be famous Hollywood actors starring in shows like Brooklyn Nine Nine and Wet Hot American Summer —for a palate-crushing IPA tasting featuring Hoo Lawd, the hoppiest IPA ever documented. In response to the onslaught of bitterness, the actors put their skills to the test by filming a mock commercial for the punishing brew.

Episode 4: Z-Trip

It’s craft beer, remixed, when world-class DJ and producer Z-Trip heads to Dogfish Head headquarters in Milton, Delaware to make a crazy wheat beer cranked to 11 with some of his favorite culinary ingredients. After brewing mastermind Sam Calagione shows off his freestyle beer-making skills, Z returns the favor by debuting a brand-new track for a very special audience at the brewery…

Episode 3: Mac Miller

This week, Sam meets up with rap phenomenon Mac Miller in New York City to share a special whiskey-infused brew that’s built to age well—like a great album. With the custom-made, 12%-ABV ale acting as a truth serum, Mac opens up about his earliest hip-hop memories and offers some brutally honest (and hilarious) feedback on Sam’s craft-beer rap group, The Pain Relievaz.

Episode 2: Chris Bosh

In the second episode of TOLDI, mad-brewer Sam Calagione brings his talents to Los Angeles to team up with 10-time NBA All-Star— and committed offseason homebrewer—Chris Bosh for a crazy beer-making mission. With stouts as their canvas, Sam and Chris brew inside a stretch Hummer while driving around L.A. looking for ingredients inspired by Chris’ love of Texas BBQ and his globe-trotting adventures.

Episode 1: Mario Batali

On the series premiere of “First We Feast Presents…That’s Odd, Let’s Drink It,” Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione teams up with culinary legend Mario Batali to brew a pruno—a fermented beverage typically associated with prison—that makes use of funky, unsellable produce from Eataly Chicago. The goal of their crazy experimental ale? To prove that brewers can join the cause to reduce America’s rampant food-waste epidemic.
