Starting in 2015, Starbucks will offer a delivery option in its mobile app.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said“Imagine the ability to create a standing order of Starbucks delivered hot or iced to your desk daily. That’s our version of e-commerce on steroids.”

Imagine a Pumpkin Spice Latte delivered to your desk. Imagine your unpaid intern never leaving the office again to go on coffee runs. The future is now.

In December, Starbucks will roll out its new mobile-payment and ordering app in Portland, OR—which isn’t all that revolutionary since it just allows customers to walk into a Starbucks store and pick up their order without waiting in line. A national rollout of the app is planned for 2015.

Then the crazy stuff happens: In the latter half of 2015, Starbucks will also begin to make food-and-beverage delivery available in select markets. Delivery will be available to loyalty-program members as part of the new app, reports Ad Age. It was only a matter of time.

In the video below, Shultz explains why Starbucks has decided to roll out delivery. He says,

“Every bricks and mortar retailer is going to have to create new ways of driving traffic, and we are in the sweet spot of that. There’s no doubt mobile ordering pay and delivery is going to be incremental—our research demonstrates that.”

We’re just imagining some lazy stoner sitting on his couch, yelling at his Xbox to deliver him a Domino’s pizza, then ordering a Venti Frappuccino to go with it. America’s future looks bright.
