If you’re Justin Bieber, Instagram is hell—a virtual prison where people get “locked in the server” and “stuck in the DMs." But if you’re Bieber’s ex, Selena Gomez, the ‘gram is a road to social media superstardom, leading to more than 100 million followers and 5.9 million likes on a single photo.
Back in July, an image of Gomez sipping a bottle of Coca-Cola with a candy-striped straw was named the most popular photo on IG after it reached 4.4 million likes and 170,000 comments (most of which featured fans telling the 24-year-old singer to “slay,” and dubbing her the “Queen of Insta.”) Now, some five months later, the photo has held onto its title, garnering an additional 1.5 million likes and 62,000 comments. BuzzFeed News reports that the image was officially named the most popular celebrity post of 2016 by Instagram on Wednesday.
The photo, which was marked as a sponsored post with a simple #ad hashtag, was a marketing boon for Coke, who tapped Gomez for its “Share a Coke and a Song” campaign.
Still, Gomez crushed the Instagram game this year even without Coke’s help. The singer is the most followed account on the social media site—leapfrogging Taylor Swift by some 10 million follow—and also boasted the second, third, fourth, and fifth most popular celebrity photos for 2016. She also recorded seven of the 10 most liked videos on Instagram, including the number one spot.
If we owned a soda company, let’s just say we’d stick a bottle in Gomez’s hand, too.
