Comb-over champion and presidential candidate Donald Trump has already managed to stir up a hefty amount of controversy after just a handful of months on the campaign trail. However, that is not why one of his quotes is being removed from Honest Tea’s bottle caps.
According to the Associated Press, Paul Shapiro—the Vice President of the Humane Society of the U.S.—tweeted out the cap with the quote which reads “If you’re going to think anyway, you might as well think big.” Shapiro pointed out that it is “funny” that a bottle of a brand called Honest Tea would feature Trump.

@pshapiro We’re in the process of having his quotes removed from our caps. 😀

The company quickly responded saying that they were already in the process of having Trump’s quotes removed from the caps. Co-founder Seth Goldman explained that the decision had nothing to do with the real estate mogul’s presidential run. Instead, when Coca-Cola bought honest Tea in 2011, it advised the company to only use quotes from people who are dead because they’re “less likely to offend.”
Because of this, Honest Tea is also removing quotes from people like famed author J.K. Rowling. Goldman says that the company has no objections to Trump’s quote, other than that he is still living. Fortune writes that the company replaces the inspirational quotes every year-and-a-half and that the Trump quote was on its way out anyway.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Trump took offense to the move and called for a boycott of Honest Tea. The presidential hopeful has a penchant for suggesting boycotts of products and brands. Last month, Trump asked people to boycott Starbucks over the coffee company’s holiday red cups which were free of Christmas-imagery this year. This angered a few overly caffeinated evangelical Christians, one of whom even went so far as to say that Starbucks hates Christmas and Jesus. Trump jumped on the bandwagon proclaiming, “If I become president, we’re all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you.”
