Ever seen a drunk child? No? Well we certainly hope you haven’t.
A Detroit mother had to take her four-year-old child to the hospital after a virgin strawberry daiquiri mix-up got her child hammed.
According to Detroit news station WDIV, Teria Smith ordered herself a strawberry daiquiri and a virgin version for her toddler while grabbing dinner at a local restaurant. The two drinks arrived in identical glasses, making it impossible for the waitress to differentiate between the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage.
After Smith’s 16-year-old daughter commented that her sister’s drink was boozy-tasting, the family realized that the four-year-old was given the alcoholic drink.
Video footage of the intoxicated child shows her saying that she felt “funny” after sipping her drink. The mother took her child to the hospital after refusing the restaurant’s request to call 9-1-1. After a few hours, the child’s urine sample showed no signs of alcohol.
The incident prompted Smith to file a police report with the restaurant. She hopes to ensure that future non-alcoholic children’s beverages will come in child-size cups to make it easy for waitstaff to differentiate between the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
