Americans have come up with some wacky soda flavors over the years, ranging from juniper berry to bacon. That’s cool, but it’s nothing compared to the grilled-eel-flavored soda that now exists in Japan.
Japanese drink manufacturer Kimura Inryou has debuted an unagi-flavored soda to keep you refreshed all summer long.
According to Rocket News 24, the flavor is obtained through eel extract. The number of eels you have to juice to produce enough extract for one bottle is something we can’t speak on.
If you’re traveling in Shizuoka Prefecture after July 21, you’ll be able to cop a bottle of unagi soda at highway rest areas and gift shops throughout the region. Kimura Inryou will also be selling bottles through their online store for 200 yen ($2 USD), as well as cases of 20 bottles for 4,000 yen.
If you can’t get enough unagi when you go to Japanese restaurants, and you’re the kind of person who slapped this eel case on your iPhone 4 back in the day, we’re sure you’re already hitting up your contacts in Japan to ship you the eel soda.
