The long decomposition time of plastic bottles threatens the safety of mother earth. A good portion of discarded bottles end up in landfills, or worse, the planet’s bodies of water.
Coca-Cola has come up with a creative way to reuse its plastic bottles—the 2ndLives cap system. 2ndLives is a line of 16 screw-on caps, which transform used Coke bottles into useful objects like a paintbrush, marker, water gun, and pencil sharpener, among others.
So far, the bottle tops are only being distributed (for free) in Vietnam, with Indonesia and Thailand to begin receiving them soon. Considering there are 1,500 water bottles consumed per SECOND in the U.S. (that doesn’t even include soda bottles), we hope the cap system will make its way to America in the near future.
What do you think—is this a hollow attempt at greenwashing, or an innovative idea that could reduce plastic bottle waste?
