We’re totally on board with the idea of a robot bartender (and a butler bot with a British accent programmed in, while we’re at it) but the Kickstarter campaign for this automated cocktail mixer gave us pause.

The Barobot, which looks a little like an espresso machine, holds a dozen bottles of liquor and mixers. It has a touchpad which allows you to program in the drink you want, or you can control it using an app on your mobile device.

So why exactly do you need one? Its raison d’être is explained on the Barobot Kickstarter page.

“Mixing drinks at home parties might prove a challenge if you are not a trained bartender with professional equipment. It requires remembering many recipes and accurate measures which could be disastrous if you forget, more importantly, it distracts you from interacting with your guests. Barobot takes care of your bar tending needs allowing you to focus on your friends.”

We’ve all been there. If we had a nickel for every time a neglectful host messed up our Dark and Stormy, we might be able to afford a Barobot.

You can preorder an unassembled machine for around $1500; a ready-to-pour Barobot will set you back $2500. Then all you need to do is buy a dozen bottles of liquor. NBD.
