In the video above, acclaimed San Francisco bartender Erik Adkins (of the Slanted Door group) demonstrates how to make a Bourbon Lift. According to Adkins, this rich and fizzy bourbon drink is the cocktail equivalent of a New York egg cream.
Adkins calls it a “fantastic brunch drink,” but we think its also a perfect “treat yourself mid-week because the weekend is just too damn far away” cocktail.
Whether you need a lift during the week or on a weekend, do make this fizzy, creamy cocktail at home. If you drink it alongside a pastrami sandwich, you’re our hero.
How to Make a Bourbon Lift
Ingredients
½ oz Heavy cream
½ oz Almond orgeat
½ oz Coffee liqueur (Adkins uses House Spirits Coffee Liqueur)
1 ½ oz Bourbon (Adkins uses Maker’s Mark)
Club soda
Instructions
Add all the ingredients except the club soda to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake for 10 seconds and double-strain into an 8-ounce Fizz or Collins glass. Fill with club soda, pouring from about 6 inches above the glass. Wait a few seconds and then add another splash of soda—this will “lift” the foam above the top of the glass. Serve with a straw.
