Flight delays are inevitable these days, but you know what the worst part is? Getting hangrier and hangrier as you sit on the plane while it’s grounded. It’d be one thing if you could at least go into the airport to get some food, but no—when the weather gods make you their bitch, they’re serious about your suffering.
That’s why Frontier Airlines pilot Gerhard Brandner is a clear hero in our eyes.
9News reports that on a routine flight from Washington, D.C. to Denver, severe thunderstorms caused his plane to divert to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Once there, the plane landed to refuel and await word that it could take off again.
It was then that Brandner felt the collective hanger pains strike, called Domino’s, and ordered pizza for everyone.
Passenger Logan Marie Torres told Fox31 Denver that Brandner got on the intercom and said,
“Ladies and gentleman, Frontier Airlines is known for being one of the cheapest airlines in the U.S., but your captain is not cheap. I just ordered pizza for the entire plane.”
A flight that should have taken three hours ended up taking seven, but at least the passengers had some food in their stomachs when they landed. What’s even more amazing is that Brandner bought all those pizzas out-of-pocket.
Local Domino’s manager Andy Ritchie took the call, just when his shop was about to shut down for the night. He and his crew made the pizzas as quickly as they could. After he found out about Brandner’s generosity, Ritchie told CBS5, “I wish I would have know he was paying out of pocket for them, because then I would have done way more for him.”
It’s just like Ellen DeGeneres taught us: pizza always makes everything better.
