You already know how we feel about brunch around here, so you can probably guess our opinion on couples brunch—few things could be more awkward and unbearable. A film about just how weird and terrible it can really get, however, sounds great.
It’s a Distaster, which hits theaters April 12, is just that—a dark comedy that delves into the psychological intricacies of midday, non-lunch dining. With David Cross, America Ferrera, and Julia Stiles in the mix, it’s definitely got potential. And it looks like rather than taking the Portlandia approach and poking fun at the absurdity of the food itself, this is a more a character comedy, using couples brunch as a set piece for domestic bickering and—in a twist that promises to ratchet up the crazy—a mysterious attack on the city at large.
What do you think of the trailer? Will it earn a place in the pantheon of great foodie films?
