Last night, the bad boy of food television, Anthony Bourdain, got a dose of his own cantankerous medicine at “On The Chopping Block: A Roast Of Anthony Bourdain.”
The event helped kicked off the New York City Wine & Food Festival, which meant that some of the other biggest names in food TV—you know, the ones like Guy Fieri and Rachael Ray that Tony spends most of his time verbally pulverizing—could be in town to get their shots in. Tickets were $400, with proceeds benefiting the Food Bank so that everyone could walk about feeling okay about all the vitriol. A lot of Bourdain’s buddies (Mario Batali, Eric Ripert) and comedians (Sarah Silverman, Artie Lang) were also in the mix to crack jokes.
The event went down under lock and key, with no film crews to capture the smackdown (as Bourdain’s wife Octavia noted, “[This] roast is too dirty to air on any channel.”
Thankfully, the Twittersverse kept us abreast of all the zingers. Click through the gallery above to read the 10 funniest tweets from the roast.
