Video Of The Day: Meet Japan’s All Black Everything Dog

This wiener could be the apex of hot dog-dom.

As we illustrated yesterday in our breakdown of Japanese fast food, Japan is home to some of the most intricately bizarre quick service creations: Corn Dog Crust Pizza, Foie Gras Burgers, and now, Black Terra Hot Dogs. Back in March, Tokyo’s Vegas Premium Hot Dogs decided to create a pitch-black wiener and bun using edible bamboo charcoal powder, which is, apparently, a widely used food dye in Asia. The 30-centimeter long dog is all the rage in Tokyo, with tourists throughout the city making sure to stop by Vegas Premium’s to try the black-on-black dog for themselves. Customer reviews thus far have been mixed; although, Vegas Premium claims the powder doesn’t alter the taste of the dog at all.

Check the video above and see the black as coal hot dog for yourself.
